NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority)
As a U.S. citizen, you need an NZeTA before you travel, even though the U.S. is visa-waiver eligible. Apply via the official app (around NZ$17) or website (around NZ$23); you'll also pay a separate International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL, around NZ$35) at the same time. It's valid for multiple trips over 2 years or until your passport expires, and allows a stay of up to 3 months per visit.

Overstay Consequences
