Visa-Free Entry
- U.S. citizens can enter Colombia without a visa. The initial authorized stay is up to 90 days, which can be extended once for another 90 days, for a combined maximum of 180 days within a calendar year.
- Before boarding your flight, you're required to complete Colombia's Check-Mig online form; airlines check for this at check-in.
- You'll also need to show a return or onward ticket and be able to demonstrate you can support yourself financially during the visit.
Extending Your Stay
- The extension to the full 180 days isn't automatic; you apply for it through Migración Colombia before your initial 90 days runs out.
The Gotcha
The 180-day ceiling is a hard calendar-year cap, not a per-visit reset. If you use up your 180 days between January and June, leaving the country and coming back in August doesn't give you a fresh 180-day allowance; you're still counted against the same calendar year's total.
